cafeGAINZ Tip of the Day - Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007

After going to failure on your last set of DB shoulder press, drop down to a pair of (much) lighter DBs and perform as many reps as you can. You will experience a burn like no other, but just know that your deltoids are being shredded! Do this enough times and you too will have J. GAINZ-Certified Delta Force which will Perry'lyze the entire delt tissue. Have at it!

  1. How often do you do exercises to failure?

  2. hmmmmm....for me it really depends. Factors include fitness goal, energy level, workout routine, and whether I have a spotter. I usually try to go to failure at least once per workout. Sometimes more. Somestimes less. But it really depends (sorry for the cop out answer). On squats I usually dont go to failure because that could lead to an epic meltdown in which I never walk again. Plus its hard to get someone to spot you on squats.....If I do some kind of cable exercise early on in the workout, I'll usually go to failure since injury isn't really a risk. For explosive training I dont go to failure ever because the point of the exercise is speed, not "total weight pushed." Plus, injury is a distinct risk here. Hope this helps.
